Greenwood may have a wonderful imagination that gave us the Forgotten Realms, but that doesn’t necessarily equate to good ‘technical’ writing skills as for what makes a good story. I had just finished Hero by R. But I found it entertaining to read and it gave me insight on how Greenwood envisioned the FR. Eventually there is jaking scene where they proclaim their love for each other, but you can’t really tell what it means, and your think maybe there is gonna be something kinky going on, and the teacher lady turns Elmara back into Elminster Now they are together again, though each holds secrets from the others in his heart.
Bone of that Abeir merges with Toril and then magic stops working because Mystra died and the Gods pick chosens and avatars again and do stuff Once the most powerful wizard in the world, immortal, beloved of the goddess of magic, and the bane of villainy, he is now a tired old man.
Ed Greenwood has done it again. Story of El is always great. For me, many of these magic battles were kind of like reading a prose description of some of the wonderfully weird panels in Doctor Strange comics. Just a moment while we sign you in to your Goodreads account.
Although I found moments in this story enjoyable, it was riddled with confusing descriptions of scenes that I just didn’t feel like going over again. There was one cool part in the entire thing and I might be wrong that could be from the second book.
I don’t think Greenwood is very good at this aspect of his writing, so it is a bit tedious, and i won’t bore you with it To make matters worse, Elminster has needs – feeding powerful magic items to the Simbul, his lover, is the only thing that keeps her sane – but their increasingly risky collection leads his enemies right to him.

I would recommend this novel to all who enjoy Fantasy and novels set in the Forgotten Realms. The teacher mage he’s in love with turns out to be Mystra herself.
